Port Washington Yacht Club LOCATION Port Washington, NY SIZE 9,000 square feet
The Port Washington Yacht Club understood that in order to retain current members and attract new ones, a major renovation of their current facilities was necessary. The original pool and cabana were deteriorating and in need of replacement, and the dated clubhouse needed a complete interior renovation.
The project was split into two separate phases. Phase 1 focused on replacement of the deteriorated pool, patio and small concrete block cabana. The new wood cabana and the attached 140’ long raised sundeck with a pergola sunshade, echo the turn of the century style of the surrounding Long Island estates. DCAK-MSA worked with Walter M. Ballard Associates and Long Island Swimming Pool on the cabana and pool designs.
Phase 2 of the project was a major renovation and expansion of the clubhouse. The main dining room was expanded, and large, decorative trusses were added to give the room a nautical characteristic. Custom interior hardwood paneling finishes and furnishings were also provided throughout the balance of the clubhouse. The outstanding design did not go unnoticed as the renovation won first place in the Light Commercial Division of the Qualified Remodelers 2001 MASTER DESIGN AWARDS.
