This innovative project brings together pre‐school children and senior citizens who need daytime care. We created an interior “street” to allow both age groups to interact with each other. Seniors have a front porch that allows them to watch people coming and going. Children have special art areas, and indoor and outdoor play areas. Connected classrooms make it easy for teachers to share responsibility and resources. Each two classrooms are joined by the service zone containing bathrooms, food service area and the cubbies. Each classroom has a door to the exterior. Heating of the building with a radiant floor slab gives the children a warm floor to play on and the seniors a comfortable environment for perennially cold feet.
